High-voltage shore power successfully achieved "full coverage", Ningbo Zhoushan Port broke the "green power code" again"

On December 28, at berth 2 of Daxie Container Terminal in Zhoushan Port, Ningbo, the container ship "Tianxiuhe" berthed and connected the terminal shore power system to supply power to the ship. This indicates that the four major container port areas of Ningbo Zhoushan Port have achieved full coverage and full operation of high-voltage shore power. State Grid Ningbo Power Supply Company has built and put into operation 13 sets of high-voltage shore power systems in Ningbo Zhoushan Port, covering the four major container port areas of Beilun, Chuanshan, Meishan and Daxie, involving 24 berths with a total capacity of 55.4 MVA. The high-voltage shore power facilities built and put into operation by the company will supply 63 times in 2023, with a cumulative power supply of 1.457 million kWh.

Located at the intersection of the "Silk Road Economic Belt" and the "21st Century Maritime Silk Road", Ningbo Zhoushan Port has ranked first in the world in terms of cargo throughput and third in the world in terms of container throughput for 14 consecutive years. It is the world's first "One billion tons" super port. Hundreds of meters long ships enter and leave the port area without interruption, and the loading dock operates 24 hours a day. From "burning oil" to "eating electricity", the 10,000-ton ship docked at the port is connected to the shore power system instead of the ship's own fuel power generation system, which can effectively reduce air pollution emissions and has good ecological and environmental protection benefits.

From Demonstration to Global Coverage

For more than ten years, the State Grid Ningbo Power Supply Company has joined hands with Ningbo Zhoushan Port to promote the application of high-voltage shore power systems, and the pace of sailing towards a low-carbon future has never stopped.

As early as 2010, the State Grid Ningbo Power Supply Company, together with Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group, adopted the strategy of "replacing oil with electricity" for gantry cranes and ships entering and leaving the port, vigorously promoted the construction of shore power for low-voltage ships, and used shore power to provide energy for ships during landing.

In 2015, the State Grid Ningbo Power Supply Company made a breakthrough in the implementation of port high-voltage shore power in Ningbo. At the end of this year, the first set of high-voltage variable-frequency shore power project jointly invested and constructed by the State Grid Corporation of China and Ningbo Zhoushan Port Group was put into operation. The project will build a set of high-voltage variable-frequency ship shore power supply system at Beilun Third Container Terminal (formerly Far East Terminal) and Zhongzhai Bulk Terminal, with a capacity of 3 MW and 2 MW respectively.

In May 2016, the high-voltage variable-frequency shore power system welcomed the connection of 10,000 TEUs container ships for the first time, marking the promotion of shore power in Ningbo Zhoushan Port from "low voltage" to "high voltage.

"Frequency conversion" was the key to highlight the breakthrough progress made by shore power at that time. The intelligent variable frequency high voltage shore power supply provides 6.6 kV/60Hz or 6 kV/50Hz power supply according to the different modes of the ship's power receiving equipment, breaking the limitation of single frequency power supply. Ningbo Zhoushan Port can open its arms to accept all kinds of ships in the world to access shore power.

In addition, the State Grid Ningbo Power Supply Company has applied the power quality intelligent adjustment device to the shore power system of port ships for the first time in China to ensure the safe and stable connection of ships to shore power. This shore power system also realizes uninterrupted power supply, which can realize the ship's load-connected grid connection under the condition that the ship-borne generator does not stop, thus achieving seamless switching between ship power and shore power.

In March 2019, Ningbo Zhoushan Port Beilun Second Container Terminal became the country's first container terminal with full coverage of high and low voltage shore power. It has the ability to connect shore power for ships with different power capacity, and improve the utilization rate and flexibility of shore power.

On August 20 this year, the Mediterranean Michel Capellini, one of the world's largest container ships, was lit up by the shore power of Ningbo Zhoushan Port. The shore power system continuously supplies power to the ship for 61 hours, supplying 116200 kilowatt hours of electricity. This is also the first time that the shore power system of Ningbo Power Supply Company of the State Grid has exceeded 100000 kilowatt-hours since it was put into operation, and it is also the largest single power supply of the shore power system in Zhejiang Province so far.
